Langhe Nebbiolo   2005

Nebbiolo   (Sottimano D.O.C. Piedmont, Neive, Italy)  It's dark and mysterious and captivating as nebbiolo should be, but at half the price! Aromas of chaulk, cherries, dried asters and lavender trumpet the terroir of this big and lovely wine. In the mouth the wine is deeply layered and elegant, with bone dry tannins that throw your mouth into a delighted tizzy. The finish is all about some ripe raspberries, some stone dust and a lot of power.

Gruner Veltliner, Kabinett  (Weingut Steininger, Langenlois, Kaptal/Osterreich, Austria)   If consummate refreshment had it's own smell, this would be it. Notes of fresh green tomato and lime are light, clean and caressed by shining minerals. "Kabinett" indicates a later harvesting of the grapes and amazing complexity has been achieved in this elegant, crystalline beauty. Chaulk on the finish.
